HOUSTON, June 2, 2004 – US Oncology has named Kelly Mayer, R.N., O.C.N., as the 2004 recipient of the Pearl Moore Excellence in Nursing Leadership Award. The award recognizes her excellence in oncology nursing leadership.
Mayer, manager at Arizona Oncology Associates in Tucson, Ariz., was presented with the third-annual award at US Oncology’s recent Clinical Leadership Council meeting.
“I am very proud to be recognized by my colleagues who nominated me and by
US Oncology,” said Mayer. “To say the least, it is humbling to be associated with Pearl Moore, and the award gives me a greater appreciation of the impact I have as a leader in oncology nursing.”
Mayer, who has served as an oncology nurse for 12 years, has been with Arizona Oncology Associates since 1997. She is active in the Oncology Nursing Society, and is a past president of the Southern Arizona Oncology Nursing Society. She is a graduate of the University of Arizona College of Nursing.
“US Oncology’s nurses are a wonderful blend of skill, commitment and compassion, and the Pearl Moore Award recognizes that spirit,” said George Morgan, executive vice president and chief operating officer of US Oncology. “In an environment that encourages professional autonomy and decision-making in the care of patients, Kelly’s commitment, compassion, strength and support for patients, their families and fellow employees are exemplary.”
