Lubbock Homebrewer Wins World’s Biggest Single-Style Brewing Competition
Saint Arnold Brewing Company plans to brew winning recipe as Saint Arnold Divine Reserve No. 3
HOUSTON, June 27, 2006 – Fans of great beer throughout Texas will have a chance to try the winning recipe from this year’s Big Batch Brew Bash. Saint Arnold Brewing Company, the oldest craft brewery in Texas, has announced plans to brew and bottle the winning recipe later this year as Saint Arnold Divine Reserve No. 3.
This is the second time Saint Arnold has adopted a winning recipe. One year’s winning entry served as the basis for Saint Arnold Winter Stout, which became one of the brewery’s five seasonal offerings.
The Big Batch Brew Bash is believed to be the biggest single-style brewing competition in the world. This year, contestants submitted their best Double IPA (India Pale Ale) for judging, which is described as India Pale Ale on steroids. According to BeerAdvocate.com, “You should expect something robust, malty and alcoholic with a hop profile that might rip your tongue out.”
David Majoras of Lubbock, Texas brewed the winning concoction. He is a member of Ale-ian Society, the local homebrewing club of Lubbock.
Not only will Majoras see his brew on store shelves, but, if the beer is ready in time, Saint Arnold Brewing also plans to enter it into the Pro-Am category of the Great American Beer Festival in September. This is a special category at the GABF this year in celebration of the 25th year of the festival.
“As a former homebrewer I know the care and passion that went into Dave’s winning recipe, and I pledge to devote that same love and attention to detail when we brew it,” said Saint Arnold founder Brock Wagner. “We’re excited that people throughout Texas will be able to try it, because we’ve seen a growing interest and appreciation for the craftsmanship involved in brewing full flavored beers.”
Sanctioned by the American Homebrewers Association and organized by the Kuykendahl Gran Brewers, the 11th Annual Big Batch Brew Bash was supported by Saint Arnold Brewing, The Brew Stop and DeFalco’s Home Wine & Beer Supplies.
