End of Christmas Signals the Start of Saint Arnold Winter Stout Season

Curious craft beer lovers and tourists can try latest seasonal as brewery introduces its first weekday tours

Saint Arnold Winter StoutHOUSTON, December 30, 2009Saint Arnold Brewing Company (www.saintarnold.com), the oldest craft brewery in Texas, is taking advantage of the holiday week to stock depleted store shelves with its latest seasonal brew, Saint Arnold Winter Stout. It replaces the diminishing supplies of Saint Arnold Christmas Ale.

A limited supply of Saint Arnold Winter Stout is on tap and in 12-ounce bottles sold in six-packs and cases at grocery and liquor stores, bars and restaurants. It will be available until mid-February.

The roll-out of Saint Arnold Winter Stout coincides with the introduction of Saint Arnold’s first-ever weekday tours. Everyone from beer lovers to sight seers are expected to visit Saint Arnold’s new home in a renovated historic building at 2000 Lyons Avenue on the northern edge of downtown Houston. Doors open to the public at 3 p.m. Monday through Friday. The brewery also holds an open house every Saturday starting at 11 a.m. The cost of the weekday tours and Saturday open house is $7, which includes a tasting.

“Because of the excitement about the new brewery, we have had capacity crowds, so we recommend coming early or being prepared to wait outside until people leave,” said Brock Wagner, founder of Saint Arnold Brewing Company. “We appreciate the very positive reception we have received from those who have visited the new building and we look forward to being a part of the neighborhood for a long time.”

Of course, Saint Arnold Winter Stout is available for sampling during the tours. Originally introduced by Saint Arnold Brewing in early 1997, Saint Arnold Winter Stout is a creamy, full bodied sweet stout with subtle chocolate and coffee flavors and a well balanced soft roastiness. Recommended pairings include chocolate pudding cake, raw oysters and roasted nuts.

Saint Arnold Winter Stout should be stored cold at 45 degrees to avoid any degradation of flavor. The beer’s alcohol content by volume is 6.0 percent and it has an original gravity of 1.061. More information on Saint Arnold Winter Stout can be found at http://saintarnold.com/beers/stout.html.
