Saint Arnold Brewing Co. Holds 5th Annual One Pot Showdown Today
Beer is the only required ingredient as 50 teams chop, pour and stir in one-of-a-kind cooking competition
HOUSTON, Jan. 29, 2011 – Saint Arnold Brewing Company (www.saintarnold.com), the oldest craft brewery in Texas, today stages one of Houston’s most unique and flavorful events – the 5th Annual Saint Arnold One Pot Showdown. The competition sold out in record time, with 500 foodies gobbling up tickets earlier this month.
The 5th Annual One Pot Showdown challenges 50 cooking teams, each consisting of no more than four people, to create a savory dish using one pot and a Saint Arnold beer as an ingredient. The brewery has arranged for Lyons Avenue in front of the brewery to be closed for the event that is now underway.
-
Setup and cooking began at 9:00 a.m.
-
Gates will open for ticket holders at 1:00 p.m.
-
Judging will start at 1:30 p.m.
-
Winners will be announced at approximately 3:15 p.m.
The event raises funds for Noah's Kitchen. Last year’s One Pot raised $3,800, which provided the less fortunate with food, gently used clothing and the resources that will help them find medical help, shelter, employment and housing.
All three of last year’s winning teams will return. In 2011, The Eatsie Boys took top honors for their Lawn & Sea Stew, a mussel stew with chorizo made with Saint Arnold Fancy Lawnmower Ale. The One Pot Wenches took second place for their Turkey and Collard Greens made with Saint Arnold Fancy Lawnmower Ale and The Carnies (winner of the 1st Annual One Pot Showdown in 2008) took third for their Texas WHEATies – Saint Arnold Texas Wheat (which was retired in 2011) braised sausage stuffed inside a Texas Wheat pancake.
Joining Wagner in the judging will be Houston Chronicle Beer Writer Ronnie Crocker, Houston Press Food Editor Katharine Shilcutt, CultureMap’s Caroline Gallay, KPRC’s Courtney Zavalla, Petrol Station owner Ben Fullelove and local pastry chef Rebecca Masson who competed on Top Chef.
