Saint Arnold Rolls Out another Classic for Houston Art Car Parade
1959 Cadillac convertible painted to depict the various aspects of brewing
HOUSTON, April 9, 2015 – Just in time for the 28th Annual Houston Art Car Parade, Saint Arnold Brewing Co. (www.saintarnold.com), the oldest craft brewery in Texas, has added to its collection of classics. Long known for its tie-dyed 1957 Bentley, Saint Arnold will unveil its “new” 1959 Cadillac convertible this weekend, featuring a design by Robynn Sanders Hale that celebrates five essential elements of brewing beer: malt, hops, yeast, water and fire.
“When we decided to do our first art car 15 years ago, we chose a 1957 Bentley because it was a handcrafted car and tie dying it was so unexpected to people,” said Saint Arnold Founder/Brewer Brock Wagner. “After painting many “drivers” for our sales team, we wanted to do a major art car project and decided the 1959 Cadillac with ridiculous fins would be perfect!”
While the car was being restored by Classic Cars of Houston – a project that took nearly a year – Wagner and Sanders-Hale collaborated on the design. The concept was to have a repeating pattern extending from the front of the car to the back. The pattern depicts the different aspects of brewing beer, each morphing into the next. The design also incorporates gold, silver and copper leaf.
“I love the way it turned out and I’m so thankful that Brock and Saint Arnold provided me with such an amazing canvas,” said Sanders-Hale, who earned a degree in graphic design from the University of Houston and creates four-wheeled works of art out of Blip Workshop. “The design looks interesting from far away, but you have to get up close to really appreciate how intricate it really is. That’s true for the ’59 Cadillac itself, too, which is why this was so much fun.”

Now in its 28th year, the Houston Art Car Parade is presented by The Orange Show Center for Visionary Art. The event – the oldest and longest art car parade in the world, attracts more than 250,000 spectators who turn out to view an incredible array of mobile masterpieces. Organizers expect over 250 vehicles and other entries from 23 states, Canada and Mexico. In addition to cars, parade entries include anything on wheels from lawnmowers to go-carts.
The parade runs along Allen Parkway, starts at Taft, heads toward Downtown, makes a left at Heritage Park, and back down Allen Parkway the other way.
