Statement from West Fertilizer Co. Regarding Insurance
WEST, TEXAS, May 6, 2013 - In response to questions about the insurance coverage of West Fertilizer, Co., Daniel Keeney, spokesperson for West Fertilizer Co. issued the following statement:
First, everyone associated with West Fertilizer Co. expresses our deepest sympathies to those who have been hurt and to the families of those who were killed in this tragic accident.
Adair Grain dba West Fertilizer had liability insurance totaling $1 million. There were no excess or umbrella policies. The carrier is United States Fire Insurance Company.
Representatives of Adair Grain dba West Fertilizer have been in regular contact with attorneys for the victims as well as the various property damage insurers who are involved with this loss. We are aware that the attorneys for the victims and property insurance carriers are exploring other avenues of recovery and we are cooperating with them as appropriate.
As it has been since this accident happened, our focus remains on assisting the various investigating agencies conduct their investigation in order to gain an understanding of the circumstances leading up to the April 17, 2013 accident. It is our hope that we can understand what happened so nothing like this ever happens again in any community.
