Voxofon Adds Photo, Video, and Location Attachments to Android App
Revamps user interface to support fastest growing segment of mobile device users
HOUSTON, May 13, 2014 – In support of the rapid growth of customers using Android devices, Voxofon, a provider of mobile apps utilizing over-the-top (OTT) voice and messaging services, today released a major update to the Voxofon app for Android that provides a significant leap forward in user engagement and interaction. Available immediately for free download through the Google Play app store, version 5.5.0 brings a completely revamped user interface and greatly expands what users can share over SMS to include photos, videos and even location for the first time.
In addition to the new ability to share multimedia messages, users can still rely on the Voxofon app for Android for free and inexpensive international calling and free messaging to connect with friends, family or business associates around the world. Voxofon added multimedia messaging to its iOS app earlier in 2014 and users can already share photos, videos and location information using the Voxofon website. The photos and video messages can also be sent to feature phone users and viewed through their mobile browser.
Multimedia messages can be sent between Voxofon users for free.
"After seeing how the iOS community is using rich multimedia messaging capabilities to deepen their connections, we are excited to expand these capabilities to the Voxofon app for Android," said Alexey Goloshubin, president and CEO of Voxofon. "With iOS and Android representing over 80 percent of global smartphone users, we wanted to make it possible for Voxofon users to be able to share their photo and video moments for free, regardless of which device they use."
In addition to these new features, the Voxofon app for Android continues to provide extremely low call rates to over 200 countries, allowing users to make calls to feature phones and landlines for up to 90 percent less than traditional carriers. Also, through the in-app Offer Wall, Voxofon users are able to earn call credits for free by doing everyday activities such as trying new apps, viewing short videos or taking surveys.
In the coming months, Voxofon plans to further expand the capabilities and improve the user experience of the Android app by adding support for several localized languages and further expanding the messaging features of the app.
Voxofon apps for iOS, Android, Blackberry, Windows and other operating systems are powered by the cloud-based Bit6 (www.bit6.com) communications platform. Bit6 has a beta program underway to make it easier than ever for developers to integrate voice/video calling, texting and multimedia messaging into their apps. Interested developers can download the latest SDK for iOS from the Bit6 website and add messaging features to their apps with just a few lines of code.
