Savor_small.jpgHOUSTON, May 31, 2011 – Saint Arnold Brewing Company (www.saintarnold.com), the oldest craft brewery in Texas, today announced it will be among the craft brewers participating in SAVOR: An American Craft Beer & Food Experience in Washington, D.C. next month. Presented by the Brewers Association and now in its fourth year, the sold-out event is considered the benchmark of beer and food pairing events. SAVOR highlights the pleasures of fine food enjoyed with full-flavored craft beer.

During SAVOR, Saint Arnold will be serving Saint Arnold Fancy Lawnmower Beer and Saint Arnold Brown Ale. Saint Arnold Fancy Lawnmower Beer is a German-style Kölsch recognized with a Gold Medal in the German-Style Kölsch category at the 2010 Great American Beer Festival. It will be paired with Hummus with Toasted pine nut, smoked paprika and Masala Nann. Saint Arnold Brown Ale is a complex deep copper brown ale that was most recently recognized with a Bronze Medal at the 2003 Great American Beer Festival in the English-Style Brown Ale category. It will be paired with Shrimp in a blanket -- a jumbo prawn wrapped in grit cake and seared, served with a red eye gastrique.

“We are happy to be among the 72 craft breweries participating in SAVOR and look forward to representing the Texas craft beer community in Washington,” said Saint Arnold Founder/Brewer Brock Wagner. “As recently as a couple years ago, it was difficult to get chefs to understand how well beer pairs with food. The mindset today is completely different, and it is a change for the better.”

Today, many of the best restaurants in the world have made room on their menus for craft beer and food pairings. Even Food & Wine magazine is recognizing craft beer's tremendous potential: "The results [of collaborations] are often beers that are as complex as wine and just as food friendly."

Discussion topics at this year’s educational salons at SAVOR will include: The Wow of Umami! Creating the “Wow” of Beer & Food Combination; Beer And Just Desserts; Joie De Vivre (Joy Of Living): Beers Crafted For Cajun, Creole And Foods Of The Deep South; Charcuterie, Barbecue & Artisanal Ales; Chocolate City–Up For The Down Stroke; The Taste of the Midwest – Pairing Local Beers with Local Foods; and CraftBeer.com Beer & Food Pairing Challenge.
