HOUSTON, Jan. 8, 2008 - Amado Ruiz-Razura, M.D., FACS, FICS of The Aesthetic Center for Plastic Surgery (www.mybeautifulbody.com), one of the largest private plastic surgery group practices in Texas, will present a new surgical application and the results of a clinical study at the annual Pan-Pacific Surgical Association meeting. The event attracts plastic surgeons from throughout the West Coast, Hawaii, Australia, Canada, Japan and Korea.

Dr. Ruiz-Razura is the clinical director of the Houston-based ACPS Center for Clinical Research and Plastic Surgery Education. The Surgeons at ACPS established the research center in an effort to continue improving plastic surgery in the national and international communities.

The latest scientific papers being presented by Ruiz-Razura are co-authored by ACPS founding partners German Newall, MD; Christopher K. Patronella, MD; and Henry A. Mentz III, MD.

“Postoperative Evaluation of Compression Liposuction Garments: A Clinical Study with Comfortweave vs. Powernet Fabrics,” by Newall, Ruiz-Razura, Patronella and Mentz reveals the results of a clinical study in which a carefully designed patient evaluation was conducted to determine the most effective types of postoperative compression garments, which are used in plastic surgery to reduce swelling and aid in skin retraction, and ultimately to provide a better result from the surgery.

“The softest, most comfortable and best supportive garment makes it more likely that patients will follow doctors’ orders,” Ruiz-Razura explained. “Having good patient compliance is a key factor to obtaining excellent and consistent results.”

In “A New Application of Autologous Fat Grafts to Reconstruct the Bra Strap Soft Tissue Deformity,” Mentz and Ruiz-Razura examined a new indication for the use of autologous fat. The patient’s own fat – obtained from the periumbilical or suprapubic area through liposuction – is immediately transplanted to fill indented bra strap grooves to restore fullness and give youthful symmetry to soft tissue shoulder defects. The procedure can be performed as an out patient surgery.

"We feel that the use of autologous fat transplantation to reconstruct the bra strap defects has proven to be fast, easy, effective, and inexpensive (can be performed under local anesthetic  at the office)," Ruiz-Razura explained. "Up to the present time, we believe that Dr. Mentz’s idea is the first one to report the use of autologous fat injections for the reconstruction of the bra strap soft tissue deformities.”

Both papers will be presented at the 28th Congress of the Pan-Pacific Surgical Association Meeting, scheduled for January 19-21, 2008 in Honolulu.
